Kaeun Park
Kaeun Park is a Ph.D. student in Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan. Her primary research interest is photographic practices in postwar South Korea. Besides her projects on postwar South Korean photographs, she has written on a wide range of topics related to Korean art such as 1970s performance art, and ecological art practices in the late 1980s.
“The wooden frame could either be considered or completely discarded by the viewers. Their experiences in this installation site were not merely about enjoying a beautiful suburban area, but rather thinking about the artificial structures that literally ‘frame’ their view of nature. In this durational experience, nature was not an ideal notion that could be defined in a few words, such as “a magnificent landscape” or “beautiful green nature.” It had to be continuously redefined and explored by the viewers.”
